"This is a time of impossible problems...And yet, with impossible problems come innovations, artistic shape-shifting, and new pathways toward performance creation."

Dares
December 17—18, 2025
Two nights of singular artistic visions to cap the 2nd year! Each student shares their own performance vision, based on a "Dare" they are given by the faculty-a kind of haiku they must transmute into a personal project. Come see eight 12-minute works, four each night.

Tectonic Shifts & Other Worlds
December 10—11, 2025
On November, 7 MFA students traveled to Reykjavik with a question: What power lies beneath and within? The heat from the earth creates sizzling rivers and a pool culture, does it also connect to how dance and theatre are made, and how artists find their own source of geothermal power?
Come see this new work of theatre, composed from the fragments, images, conversations, performances, and impressions of this one-of-a-kind place. And watch these tectonic shape-shifters unveil different worlds from their 2nd semester within the Pig Iron/Rowan graduate program.

January Session 2026
January 6—17, 2026
In this two-week workshop, participants will learn the process of creating an ensemble-devised work of theatre through Pig Iron's tried-and-true generative exercises and creation approaches. This devising workshop emphasizes developing original material, physicalizing characters and theatrical ideas, structuring group improvisations into finished pieces and the role music and rhythm play in theatrical creation. Participants will work on taking material developed through improvisation and turning it into pieces that are precise, full, exuberant, and moving. The workshop culminates in an invited showing of short original pieces created during the two weeks.
